Plus More Life:
A #HeartStrong Story
A Survivor’s Journey of Heart, Humor, Healing, and Health
Ever brushed off a warning sign or thought, “That can’t happen to me”? I did, right up until, at 26, doctors told me I wouldn’t live to see 30. But at 29, what I’d ignored nearly made me the one thing I never thought I’d be, the guy who almost died at 29. When a heart attack stopped my world, I realized just how much I was taking for granted my health, my people, and the simple joy of being alive.
I’m Sam. Just a regular guy who figured family history and old habits couldn’t catch up with him, but I was wrong. Like too many of us, I waited until the warning signs couldn’t be ignored, only then realizing how much I’d risked. What happened next forced me to face everything I’d always pushed aside: inherited risks, generational curses, and the uncomfortable truths we often ignore until it’s too late or out of our control. For years, I put off going to the doctor, even when I knew I should, partly out of mistrust, partly out of fear, and mostly because we don’t take these issues seriously until we have no choice. But what we avoid doesn’t just go away—it quietly builds until it demands our attention.
This isn’t just my story; it’s a wake-up call for anyone who thinks health can wait, feels invincible, or is tired of family silence around genetic risks. In these pages, you’ll walk me through the fear, the fight, and the everyday victories that brought me back to life. No preaching, no shaming, just real talk about what it takes to protect your heart, break cycles, and finally take control. You’ll leave with real-world tools, a renewed sense of purpose, and the push to have those conversations and take the necessary steps to get healthier starting now. My story is living proof that some things are avoidable, but only if we “control the controllables” and face the things we’d rather avoid. Even when things seem darkest, there’s hope, and victory might be closer than you think.
